If you have ever picked up an object and experienced a sensation or feeling that you could not quite explain or, perhaps even found thoughts of another time or place floating through your mind, then you have experienced a little psychometry. The term 'psychometry' was first coined by a scientist named Joseph Rodes Buchanan in 1842. The word, in this context, means to ' measure the soul' of some object. Parapsychologists today consider it a form of retrocognition - the ability of consciousness to observe the past. Psychometry, past life regressions, and even pinnacles or cycles in Numerology can all be classified as forms of retrocognition.
The practice of psychometry is based upon the notion that some people are able to sense vibrations from objects and even people. These vibrations, generally speaking, are part of a layered field around the object that may be perceived. It is usually easier to pick up the influence of emotionally charged vibrations so, a knife used in a murder may have a stronger field than an ordinary kitchen knife. If you think this sounds crazy consider: did you keep an items, a ring or necklace, from a loved one who has past? Do you feel a connection to your loved one when you handle the object?
With some practice you may develop your psychometric ability. The first step is to relax completely. Meditation, self hypnosis and autogenic training are all great ways to begin to learn to relax your body while allowing your mind to focus and concentrate without effort. After you have learned to relax completely try the following experiments.
EXPERIMENT 1
Get into your relaxed state and place the object you wish to psychometrize in your hand. It may help to place your other hand lightly on top and gently caress the object. Allow yourself to note any thought, images or feelings that come to you as you hold the object. Do this for 5 or 10 minutes and write down your impressions. At this stage you should not try to interpret your impressions. Merely take note of them. You should spend as much time as you can on this experiment as it is a fundamental practice.
EXPERIMENT 2
For this experiment you will need to borrow an object from a friend or loved one. Relax and take hold of the object. Allow yourself to open the objects vibrations and take note of any impressions you receive. Do not censor yourself. Check your impressions with the owner of the object and note any inaccuracies. Keep practicing until you find your accuracy rating at about 80%. This may take some time!
